Water
Treatment on the Beyens Hog Farm
Dear Reader:
I am the owner/operator
of a 160 sow, farrow to finish operation in the Glencoe area.
In May of 2002
Water Elite installed a complete water treatment system on my farm
which includes a reverse osmosis drinking water system in the house.
The benefits
of using soft water with the inclusion of hydrogen peroxide (H202)
are phenomenal. I have noticed that the sows have a much stronger
heat cycle and pregnancy rate has improved by 15 to 25 percent.
The sows urine used to be yellow but now is clear due to animals
drinking more water. The hydrogen peroxide, in my opinion, puts
a lot more oxygen in the animals body and therefore my animals are
reaching market 7-14 days sooner.
The mortality
rate for the nursing piglets has also improved by 65 percent by
reducing stillbirths and poor doer piglets to healthier piglets.
I believe this is due to the fact that the nursing sows like the
water better and therefore produce more milk of the piglets. The
death rate has dropped from around 6-10 percent to 2-3 percent.
My hog operation is disease free and I intend to keep it that way
by making sure the animals have a friendly environment including
good air, good water, good feed, clean pens and lots of ventilation.
A benefit to
using the H202 system is good sanitation in the buildings. The H202
is also aerating the manure pit with constant bubbling going on.
This reduces the ammonia level in the barn and around the farmstead
which means good air quality.
The use of the
softened water has helped me reduce the use of herbicides by 90
percent. I now use a tenth of the recommended rate in combination
with the Farm For Profit Program. My weed control cost in corn works
out to about $6.12 per acre without controlling grasses and $13.50
to kill everything. These benefits are very substantial. The cost
of the system is returned fairly quickly through reduced costs of
herbicides, reduced mortality rates and healthier animals.
I am very pleased
with Water Elite's sales, service and expertise. I recommend Water
Elite for any livestock operation.
Sincerely,
John Beyens
